[News from FACE] The European Cheese Buffet!
Report of a Cheese lover
Oslo recently set the stage for the 14th meeting of the Farmhouse and Artisan Cheese & Dairy Producers European Network (FACE Network).
Attendees were treated to a grand cheese buffet featuring more than 80 cheeses from 15 countries, representing the full spectrum of Europe’s rich artisan cheesemaking traditions.
The attendees could try some of the Norway’s iconic cheeses like brunost, gamalost or jarlsberg.
The buffet showcased an incredible variety of textures and flavours but also of traditions, techniques, colours, aging, rind and animals. The cheesemakers showed their enthusiasm for the Hungarian cooked curd cheeses, the French lactic coagulations, the Norwegian blue cheeses, an Italian alpeggio cheese made in summer at 1500m and for the Danish and Ukrainian cheeses, as it was their first FACE Network meeting. Each cheese was accompanied by artisan breads, fruits and crackers, creating a feast for the senses.
The event highlighted the FACE Network’s mission to preserve traditional cheesemaking while fostering collaboration and sustainability among Europe’s small-scale producers.
